I'm a big fan of flushmount turn signals on the V-Strom. The stock signals stick out a long ways, and are easily broken. I'm willing to take the slight added risk by having the signals mounted in further. |

Turn signal lit. It's plenty bright for me (compare to headlights).

These are Lockhart Philips Flush Mount I signals, black with smoke covers, and I use the harness adapters, which keeps me from having to cut or crimp any wires. |
I use a nylon bolt and nut to hold the flush mount signals in place. This allows the signals to shear off in a bad crash, rather than tearing or causing the fairing to crack. They are 10-24, 1 inch long, with a slotted head- but you can use anything you find in the local hardware store. Simply drill a hole in the center of the turn signal plate (see pics below) and insert the nylon bolt. Place the turn signal against the bike, add a large fender washer and nut on the inside of the fairing, then connect your wires. No modifications to the bike are necessary! |

I don't know of any good online suppliers for these items. Take the part numbers to your local dealer and they can order them for you. |

The DOT standard says the following about front turn signals on a motorcycle: "At or near the front - 1 amber on each side of the vertical centerline at the same height, and having a minimum horizontal separation distance (centerline of lamps) of 16 inches. Minimum edge to edge separation distance between lamp and headlamp is 4 inches." |
