225 miles, 6 hours. |
My parents left today. We got up early and rode from Wilmington to Florence, which is about a 2.5-hour transit on a fairly fast highway. I was very sleepy, so I pulled over and had Tamara ride. I was so tired that I had to shove my hands under my chin to keep my head from falling over while I slept! |
When we got into Florence, we rode across the city to the small town of Timmonsville. We got a real kick out of the city with our same last name; we took a bunch of pictures at the town sign, then looked through the cemetery for any Timmons, but didn't find them. Oh well. |

Timmonsville post office; what era is it from? 50s or 60s?

After that, it was a 10-mile jaunt to the Florence airport. It's a very small airport (perhaps 1-2 terminals), but there were a ton of jets parked on the edge of the runway. They had engine covers over the engines, so they were obviously being stored there. I suspect one of the airlines stores its jets in Florence because it would be cheaper than storing them at a larger airport. |

We pulled into a grassy area so my parents could unpack the bike and pack their luggage for going home, then sent them on their way. I took the Harley and Tamara got on the DL650. She's much more comfortable on the DL when there's no passenger- but she promptly went to take a u-turn and dropped it. Oops. |
We left the airport and went to Marinda's house. Marinda is Tamara's next-younger sister and lives about an hour from Florence. We'll stay with her for a couple nights before going to Washington DC for sightseeing and to return the Harley. |
