Day28: DC driving tour, antiques
Zero(ish) miles.
Today our DC host, Chris, took us on a very nice tour of DC. We started at a local farmers' market, then went for a ride in his cage around DC. We got to see many of the neighborhoods and famous sights, then we stopped in a neighborhood that had many antique and salvage shops. Tamara and Chris took me in more of them than I care to count!

One thing I'd never thought about was the huge impact of 9/11 on security in DC. So much of "downtown" DC is occupied by important federal organizations- not just the White House and Congress, but courts and other departments. There are police parked everywhere with 24/7 guard duties and lots of "anti-car plates". I don't know the better term for these- they are huge plates designed to stop vehicles from charging through simple gates.

We like the architectural star. Don't know what the proper term is.

We also saw Ben's Chili Bowl, and the huge lines that were there for a Sunday lunch.

We had a late lunch at the Amsterdam Falafelshop, a very cool hole-in-the-wall shop. Yum.
