4/13: Teotihicuan to Oaxaca
I knew we could settle it with cash, but didn't know what it would take. I apologized profusely, showed him that the wires were sheared to the headlight, and such. He eventually suggested 150 pesos- about $14USD. I gave him a 200 peso note, told him to keep the change, and felt like I came out of that one fairly nicely. I mean, less than $20USD for that damage?
The rest of the day was good. We had to skirt Mexico City, which meant endless stop-and-go traffic on the freeway. It was pretty agonizing.
Once out of that, we headed towards Puebla, climbing into the mountains outside the City. At one point we were over 10,500 feet! The DL650 was really giving its all- WFO was about 95mph, we ran 85-90mph most of the day.
We made a stop in Tehuacan, but otherwise just burned tarmac heading to Oaxaca, arriving by about 4pm. Since we are coming down in elevation, the temperature is rising. Not a good thing in our minds, but that's okay. Oaxaca is just above 5000 feet, and we got down to about 3000 feet at one point in the trip. That's the lowest we've been since we went through Mazatlan over 4 weeks ago.
We'll stay in Oaxaca for at least two nights. There are some pretty sights in the town.
